Where the owner and/or the manager of agricultural land is in receipt of certain types of public funding (e.g. Basic Payment Scheme) this carries a requirement to achieve the management standards set out in Good Agricultural and Environmental Conditions (GAECs).
GAECs are a range of standards developed to address the protection and management of water, soils erosion, soil organic matter levels and the retention of landscape features. For information about Cross Compliance and GAECs see the Scottish Government Rural Payments and Services website.
Failure to meet these standards could result in a reduction being applied to support scheme payments. It is likely that a breach of GAEC 6 will be deemed to have occurred, if the management work set out in this Code is not carried out and this results in an out of control fire or damage to woodlands, adjoining land, march fences, etc.
