The use of cutting or swiping machinery is not subject to the same statutory seasonal limits as muirburn – see paragraph 2.2 for the dates of the season.
To avoid the disturbance, injury or death of wild, ground-nesting birds, cutting should not take place after the 15th April.
Refer to the Protected Areas section of this Code, if cutting machinery is to be used on a Site of Special Scientific Interest or on a Scheduled Monument. If there is any doubt, contact Scottish Natural Heritage or Historic Environment Scotland, respectively.
On a Site of Special Scientific Interest, or other designated site, the use of vehicles and cutting machinery may be ‘Operations Requiring Consent’ (See the Sitelink webpage for ORC details for all sites). On protected sites it is good practice to discuss cutting operation with SNH in advance.
